Abby Young is a unique artistic talent who has lived and worked in the American southwest her entire life. She creates artworks that include both metal sculptures and mixed-media contemporary paintings. Abby moves easily back and forth between sculpture and painting with each medium influencing the other. Her current collection of paintings is inspired by time she spent in the high deserts of Arizona and New Mexico. In these images Abby is interested in capturing the visual connection between the powerful desert sun, and the distinct brightness of the nighttime desert stars. Her images borrow from both the natural environment and her metal sculptures and are composed of a complex array of textural line work on multiple layers. This complexity allows the viewer to perceive the illusion of bright sunlight enhanced by the shimmering effect of light bouncing off textured metallic surfaces.
